MERIKAEZ Italian Greyhounds & other Sighthounds

SALUKIS

We have had Salukis almost as long as Italian Greyhounds. In fact we owned the Queensland Saluki Club - Dog of the Year in 1979.
However we have never really been into breeding them. Frankly it is quite difficult enough to find suitable puppy homes for one breed outside the main stream of popularity, let alone two. We had started to let the Salukis dwindle by natural attrition and when we moved to Tasmania in 1998 we did not bring any with us.

However we soon started to miss them and again have two - both co-owned with their respective breeders.

"Bertha" Padtheway N Trance (pictured above as a puppy) is a cream bitch bred by Hilary Spence and Norm Strathdee.

"Sonny" Aust Ch Kiabe Insaan is a black grizzle dog bred by Margaret Giles. Saddly Sonny died in 2007, so we are now left with only one. As we are getting too old to keep up with a Saluki in the ring, I think our Saluki showing has ended.

Here are a few pictures which show how well the Salukis get on with the IGs and our Grand daughter.
